Is War Inevitable?

Of all age groups, First Globals are the most likely to agree that “waging wars is a part of human nature” (63.3%) – a position most strongly held by likely voters describing themselves as Conservative/ Very Conservative and Libertarian.

Taken as a group, Democrats tend to be closely divided between those who agree and those who disagree with that view, 41% to 48% respectively, whereas the vast majority of Republicans (75% to 18%) and a majority of independents (56% to 30%) agree that waging war is a part of human nature.

If waging wars is natural, does that mean wars cannot be prevented? And if they can’t, do “preventive attacks” make sense?

some good thoughts here. since there still are more than 30 percent do not agree, maybe it is not hurt to also ask "if waging wars is not natural, does it mean....." Why is it always the majority matters?

is war natural? hmm...i think it is natural. my thoughts are that as long as humans have existed, our environment can be characterized as chaotic. Catastrophic weather, dangerous animals, rugged environment. All of this brought death. And as we developed technology to combat these, to alter our conditions and match them with our hopes, these inventions carried that chaos with them, because they were created by organisms responding to chaos!

And then came farming. an isolated community had surpluses of food and of course did not want the outsiders who were looking to survive, to take this. so we created an army. So I think pre farming life and the coming of farming brought about our violent tendencies...which seems to have only become more disasterous- though sometimes we possess the capabilities to prevent war strictly because of rationality- such as during the cold war, there was'nt mutually assured destruction.

so basically- everything in this world is chaotic and destructive. i don't think there is one thing that doesn't kill or deteriorate something (intentionally or unintentionally). it's the world we live in.

preventive wars could make sense if it was executed properly- but then everyone has the justification. Like Russia can now say "well America went went into Iraq, hypocrites!" I think we need to view it from that angle.
